During rough in using MC/AC or individual conductor pull, you may have some ends hanging out of the boxes that are prone to having their insulation dinged up by sharp box edges, mud rings, etc as people walk around and brush up against them. Slipping about 2" of Romex sheath over the ends where they may rub against the box will keep'em in good shape until finishing.
