Ever have trouble finding core drills or roto hammer penetrations? I have found this to be a great aid. Purchase a 10' piece of 1/2" rope lighting form a supply house or Home Depot and use this to drop through the penetration. It acts as an obvious beacon for easily locating the hole from the other side. It can also be used as a pull line if done with caution. The main thing is, it will fit through any hole larger than 1/2", and will also provide a light source for working. Try it, you'll like it!
