When trying to fish a wire in a wall, Try inserting a few feet of 2 pair phone wire into your hole at least 3 feet or so.Run your snake in the other hole with a small hook on the end, give the snake a few twists and pull it out, If not caught try again.The phone wire is so flexible you can usually pull a knot of it down through a 3/4' hole then tie on your wire or cable and pull it in.
