I would like to see more "old Vintage" 1950's- 1970's motor control and online pics of devices as well as schematics. I run across a lot of devices with no schems or docs. to go by.

Although I am not an electrician, I am designing a system that I think will make the 'old system'of wiring impractical. With all the extra work that is being done with the low voltage wiring, it will be necessary to complete the total job quickly, safely and with less labor and expense as possible. Hope to be able to read some of the problems that are being presented to electricians every day.

I typed in your site and was very interested in the information you give on Transformer connections, etc..Keep up the good work!I had a situation with a Primary 480 vac Sec. 208vac system the other day. I was not getting any voltage from ground to my B phase- also I was getting 120 vac from grond to my neutral--After some panel removal and checking some things I found the Transformer Neutral was not grounded. It was a little puzzeling until I removed the Transformer Cover. Thanks Again

A guy ask me what kind of energy will my dryer consume in dollars everytime I use it to dry my clothes on an average I told him to check this site for a possible e.g.because I was in a hurry and this was going to be a bit long finding that out.

Well at least I have contibuted in a small way nice to visit

Great site! I wish in the formula section, you had something to assist in figuring electric heat. I'm talking about large heaters intended in providing enough heat to prevent damage to water and spronkler systems from freezing. For example, a 10,000 sq/ft warehouse. You would be surprised how ofter something like this comes up. Thank you, Joe Mapp American Electric of Virginia, Inc

This is a great place to get information! I'm making note cards on my computer, using (Microsoft Excel)for people just getting into the trade. That way all they have to do in pull the note card out for information on stuff they need to do & not look bad to the boss. If you can point me to other places like this, I would like it very much. I like it because I can copy & paste thing for the cards that help people do things the right way. Thanks again, Robert

It should be noted that most industry applications don't use 480 control voltage any more. Two reasons, safty and ease of trouble shooting. Most control voltages are 120vac or 24vac. This should be included in your basic motor starter section.

I have had this site bookmarked as a reference spot and have found it easy to navigate. I would like some input on a matter that is somewhat challenging to diagnois. I have a hot tub that has ground fault protection at the disconnect and when the heating season comes along from time to time the protection trips. My thought is that there may a slight "leak" of power perhaps in the heating element and was looking at isolating and checking for any continuity to ground off of the heater. This problem rarely trips when it heats over the summer months. Any ideas? Thanks,

Scott Follese'

Just want to say that I am glad that the certification program is going thru in Cali. It will help weed out the "ropers" and nieve weekend warriors. Its an allaround good thing for our state and our trade. It will also help in the safety aspect in that you will have a more comfortable sense that the electrician before you had some sort of experience in the trade.

I've been injoying reading your question answer form now for over a week. I'm a Unlimited Electrician from the state of North Carolina who has been back in the trade now for three years after substaining a job realated injury that put me out of work for almost 6 years, and missing two generations of the NEC. During this three year return I've had to crack many books & tapes hard to reach some degree of return to the trade.I think from what I've read so far from the many postings that your moderator, "Robert Kies" is a "knolegable electrician" and fair to your quest on this site.I've seen in one instance where Robert has taken a stand in not helping homeowners in the basic understanding of the NEC and the installation of Electrical. In taking this stand he endured some comments, and flack from others in this form.I want to be on the record in supporting his decision of not to comply, and the answer of hiring the trained to perform the work.I'd also like to contribute to your form, and in doing so treat my fellow electrical brothers with respect and remain a gentleman. Not posting of some the ignorant or rude comments that I have read. Some fellow brothers seem to forget that someone pays for this site and devotes free time to it helping others of this trade. I'll try not to loose sight of there mission.."RWC"...dillon3c@peoplepc.com

Good site.I like the information.Know most but always good to relearn even the same information. Sometimes you see it in a different light and notice something that you did not see the first time.I am an Inside Journeyman Wireman from Memphis Tennessee Local 474 for 16 years.

The simple descriptions used on this website to explain complex phenomena are very good. I wish that they were used in grade school science classes. Using graphics to explain the same phenomena will allow further understanding aws well.
