Hello, I'm in the midst of starting an energy auditing company here, and am looking for as much information on power factor correction capacitors as possible so that I will be able to direct my clients to the best possible equipment in regards to value, durability, and effect downstream (no spikes). Local 103 Member ~ Inventor Makes Good
After four years in the making and three years of contractual debate with B-Line Industries, Ken Kehoe, 20 year member of L.U. 103, has his ideas go into production. The new BA-40 QuickFix Fastening System headlines their new 2000 product line.
On the notion, some years back, that there has to be a better way to install downlighting fixtures in acoustical-raised ceilings, Ken Kehoe had an idea. An opportunity presented itself while Ken was working in Oregon for Mass. Electric Construction. It was there he contacted a B-Line Representative and scheduled a meeting. B-Line was so taken by the concept they immediately scheduled future appointments to discuss in detail their future product. Another example of being in the right place, at the right time, with a better mouse trap.
The new BA-40 QuickFix Fastening System HEADLINES B-Line Industries 2000 Product line. Its easy, its fast, and you dont need any extra tools, materials, or drilling to install this time saving creation. Intended for Universal Downlighting and Speaker box mounting, the BA-40 is pre-sized to mount and fasten to standard 24 T-Bar spacing.
Installation
? High Hat Fixture & (2) BA-40s ~ Slide a BA-40 through each of the fixture side support holes.
? Place on ceiling grid and align fixture. Each BA-40 has a notch on either end that rests on to the T-bar/grid and allows the fixture to be easily positioned as well as securely supported. It wont slide off.
? After setting the fixture LOCK it into place by folding each end of the BA-40 towards the grid and fold the locking tab over the bulb of the T-Bar.
? Make-up the fixture and move on!
The new BA-40 QuickFix Fastening System allows for a quick, secure, and safe installation that also fulfills seismic requirements without the use of tools and tie-wire as has been done in the past.

simple but practicable
I have been an electrician for fourteen years with the same company since I started as a greenhorn from being a carpenter. I have just got a computor about 2 years ago without typing skills. Since I got a computor, I have learned a little where the keys are so I can type this in a matter of a few hours. However, I am now an Inspector for Collier Co.,Fla. and am in the third year of teaching the first year of the electrical apprenticeship for the IEC of S.W.Florida. I started as an Inspector the first of the millenium (1-10-00 to be exact). I was surfing the internet and stumbled upon this great web site. I can not even remember how, but since then, I have been telling everyone, even my students, about it. There is so much to it. I have only started tosurf this site, and I can tell it has a lot to offer.I continue, and will for quite a while, surf this site. It is great!!!! David A. Engelhart;ME., C.C.E.I.

Excellent Website!!!
I've not explored all the electrical Web Sites as of yet,but Tool box and Newton are about as good as you could get, both are laid out very good and very informative.I belonged to the NC.IBEW for about 4 years in the early 70s under their apprenticeship program and worked for Industrial electric at that time. Since,I have left and now am a private self employed service electrician.Doing troubleshooting work in Industrial, commercial and residential. I have always had a hunger to know what makes things tick.I've always believed this hunger and good common sense is all it takes to be a decent electrician and without them you shouldn't be in the trade because you will always be dependent on someone self for your answers. "THANKS"
I saw this site in Plant Engineering, June of 2000 issue. This site was listed under the best 25 sites for technical internet information.
Nice site. A good place for electricians to share ideas and experiences. I like the tricks of the trade section.

Pretty good mate!! But I am intrigued why people in the United States seem to be encouraged to do thier own electrical wiring? In Australia it is forbiden by law for unlicenced personnel to touch any hard-wired circuitry, penalties apply to those that think that this ruling does not apply to them!! The benefit of these regulations are reflected in the low loss of life and property due to elctrical accidents even though Australia has a much higher domestic supply voltage of 240vac compared to the United States!
Electrical Inspector Manitoba Hydro nice site lots of useful info.

Came across your web site while looking for information on Electrical Safety. The great information is appreciated and will be passed on to fellow workers. Thanks again!
I've been recommending this site to my co-workers. Keep up the good work!
I enjoyed reading tricks of the trade and taking the code test it's always interesting to test your basic knowledge after working in the trade, you don't always get a chance to study the code as often as you might like to. I plan on visiting this sight again. Also I think safety topics are a good idea so many young workers get hurt on the job.(usually on needless accidents) This could be as a result of poor safety training.
Thanks Just needed some formulas and it was almost to easy to find,I`m sure Ill be back!!! This is my frist time here won`t be my last!!

I have been a construction electrician for 40 yrs. I have been a foremen for 35 of those years. I just wished that this site was around for some of those hard to find problems that often come up on a job site ,regarding code and calculations. The wealth of information that you provide ,at ones finger tips is astounding. The information continues to come forth and the new addition of voltages of the world is absolutely wonderful for the new job that I have, We build electronic equipment to be used all over the world and our biggest problem is always getting to know their voltages and types of receptacles. Many thanks to you at this site. I like the brain teaser and enjoyed doing your last one.

this is a pretty good site
Just found the site. Looks very interesting. Will comment more later.
Great site! A lot of good info and links...
As an instructor conducting safety training, including electrical safety i am finding this site to be helpful with giving me new ideas to help refresh my material. With the software available today it is easy to produce slides that liven presentations to make them more appealing to the employee not accustomed to receiving training. Workshops often tend to be dry and sometimes downright sleep inducing. With animated slides, actual demonstrations of material available on the web, these workshops become lively and thought provoking. The more material made available to us to improve the content of our presentations, our ability to reach more people with the right safety message increases and subsequently we can get more employees thinking safety, especially when working with electricity.
Excellent site
Just got in the site. I'll look around, if I like it I'll be back

Very well put together and informative site
Very interesting site you have!! I work in two-way radio, and consequently have to "deal" with more than just the plain old RF portions. Obviously, we are very concerned with adequate supply, grounding (something about big metal structures sticking up into the air that attracts lightning..)
Also, it's just plain neat to see how other craftpeople solve those nitzy little day-to-day problems - your tricks of the trade portion is awesome!!
Kudos, and keep up the great work!!

Nice site. I was looking for information on how an AC motor's current, available torque, etc. will vary with changing line voltage or frequency. no luck. the closest seemed to be two motor calculators on the square d site link, but one is not ready and there were problems either using online or downloading the other one, so I still don't know whether they have what i need. i'll be back to browse some more as time permits
this is the best trade out there. we will always be in high demand. computers will always need juice.

Hi, I am a college student studying Electrical Engineering in Louisiana. I have been interested in electricity for many years. Before entering college, I enrolled in a local vocational education program in my hometown. After completing the program, immediately after graduation, I tested and recieved an electricians license in my area. I have been sub-contracting for various commercial and a few residential electrical jobs. The desire to learn more about electricity and it's generation, phase relationships, transmission, and distribution led me to enroll in a college engineering program. The one complaint I must make though, about electrical engineering these days, is that most of our education is primarily focused on computer technology, electronics, and telecommunications networking. Most of my fellow collegues have never seen a 2000 amp service, or have any idea what a 480/277 volt panel looks like. Yet this is electrical engineering today. The old days of studying transformer banks, designing switchgear, and calculating anticipated loads, are a thing of the past. But this is what interests me the most. Thus, I am forced to obtain a great deal of my personal educational information from out of the classroom. I still retain my license, and do electrical construction during the summer and winter holidays when school is not in session. I also try to bring some of my latest classroom theory to the jobsite, although some of the workers tend to get bored very quickly. As for your website, it's good to see some practical electrical applications. I also appreciate the tips on calculating open delta service requirements. Keep up the good work, and support the Electrical Trade Industry. You may e-mail me at dpg6035@usl.edu if you have any suggestions or comments for me. Thank you, David Graffagnino.
Your web site is very helpful to un in the industry. Keep up the good work, it is appreciated.

I am looking for Q.C.checklists for ruff-in and final inspections for single familt units.
I'm looking to get into the electrician field, but am not sure on what to expect. I need to know what to expect as far as salary (union vs. non-union), job availability, benefits, tools required for start-up, tools possibly needed in future, retirement plans, work environment, overtime possibilities/requirements, etc. .....everything! If there are any good web-sites that could answer my questions, I'd be appreciative. Or, if possible, drop me an e-mail (larcoal@hotmail.com) to let me know personally "how things work" in the electrician biz. Thanks.

As the Ground Safety Manager for this installation I have found that many people are not aware of the dangers involved with working around energized equipment. I have also found that many incidents involving electricity was due primarily to a lack of knowledge. People just don't know the potential "killing power" of the equipment they are maintaining. I have forwarded this link to all of my unit safety representatives to share with those individuals tasked with performing maintenance on energized equipment and components. Thanks!
This is my first time to this site and it seems to be a good thing.
Have been involved in Electronics repair since 1969. Started out in he Vaccum era up to and including the solid state.repairs in TV and some VCR knowledge.

I am constantly seeking new ideas, information and knowledge on the Electrical Field. I hope this site can be a benefit for my career. I was just looking on the web a few weeks ago on a site that had electrical information but all I could find were contractor sites. Whomever developed this site, I as I know as many other electricians, thank you for it.

THE REASON I ASK YOU THIS IS BECAUSE THE REGULATIONS BETWEEN STATES AS WELL AS COUNTRIES DOES NOT GIVE ME WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR,IE; IMFORMATION CONCERNING REGULATIONS THAT ONLY APPLY TO THE REGION WHICH I LIVE AND WORK. APART FROM THAT I LOVE THE HELP YOUR SITE PROVIDES AND I WILL BE BACK IN FUTURE.

I am "SHOCKED", to have found such of a good site. I'm an apprentice and found this site very usefull. This is a great tool for learning the electrical trade. I was wondering if this site has anything on helping a person learn how to solve LCR circuites, vectors, and power factors. I am looking for something where circuits are drawn out so it helps you understand it. Keep up the good work. I am going post this site up in the break room at our apprenticeship school . maybe many more will find it as helpful as I did. I thought the pictures are great too. Thanks , Jay Davis, HOTCIR@aol.com

Love your site, keep up the good work..
Good info needs some canadian code content
I am the Department Head of the Fire Technology Program at Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC. One of the courses that I teach is Electrical Standards for Firefighters. I have found this site very helpful in giving me ideas as to how to present the course. It is a difficult course to teach in that we are not trying to make electricians out of the students, yet give them the tools needed to recognize the significant factors involved in handling the emergency incident involving electricity, in conducting a fire cause and origin determination that may involve electricity, and in recognizing electrical hazards during a routine fire safety inspection of commercial occupancies. Unfortunately, it seems to me that understanding these concepts almost requires a complete understanding which is not possible in one semester.
Thanks

Where I work, we have some machines that were made in England. My problem is, that the schematics are almost impossible to understand. Is there any information out there that could help me understand how to read these things. I think that they are using the International Electric Code. If anybody knows how I can get my hands on any information that could help please e-mail me at ( dliving@sidney.heartland.net) Any information would be extremely helpful and very much appreciated.

Hi, I'm a student at Olympic College. I'm enrolled in the automotive program. This quarter we are learning all about current fundamentals. The whole idea behind electricity scares me. It is kinda confusing to me. But I will not give up. I will learn it and do very well. I am glad there are web sites like this one to help thriving college students, like me to succeed. Thanks again for the excellent web page.

i'v been an electrician for twelve years and i have my journeymans license. I am a good electrician, i take great pride in my work. The last exam i had i know i passed with at least 80% i found all those answers in the book. I received a 53%. (Masters exam) The state says i failed on questions i could answer in my sleep. there's something funny going on. alot of others i'v talked to in my field agree. The state won't show my exam to my representative either. what should i think?
I still have to take my state test and i'm hopeing this will help.
Iam just about to take my journey mans exam . looking for all the help I canget
GREAT SITE
An enjoyable experience to read this sites' information. As an Industrial Maintenance Electrician at Inland Steel, we are called "Motor Inspectors" by job classification, not IBEW electricians. I am attempting to push the Steelworkers to recognize us as what we truly are, and gain IBEW representation. Our job skills in the are pushed to new limits daily, with new technologies and constant training, but no wage enhancement. A 7280 hour apprenticeship and countless more hours of jobsite training has been very valuable in making us some of the highest skilled employees in the mills today and if they had kept up the wages to a decent standard, I would not be on the job search that I am on right now. Keep up the good work on this site, and why not add a "jobs" area as well.Thanks. 12-30-98 dmurzyn@Ameritech.net
This may sound crazy...but I am searching for my BirthFather. I need your help...please! I was born on 9-17-65, Tampa, FL (St. Joe's Hospital) and placed for adoption through Catholic Charities. My B"Dad (B=Birth) had asked my B'Mom to marry him (she declined). He was 25, German background, blond hair, blue eyes, 5'10" tall, 160-170 lbs, and worked sporadically (due to back injury) as an electrician. He had 1 older brother (also an electrician) who was 28, married w/1 child. I do not know if they all lived in Tampa, but I know they lived in FL. How can I find a list of all FL electr. in 1965 in FL and for each city in FL? (Maybe I can find 2 w/same last name). Dad if you see this...I love you and want to know you in 1999. Anyone w/info...PLEASE e-mail me GGANGG@AOL.COM. My thanks and God Bless you all in the New Year! 9-17-65 White Female adoptee in search of Dad (we both have blond hair/blue eyes). B'Mom was 20, only child, tall, large boned, blue eyes, blond hair, her dad owned a motel at time of my birth.
I am studing for the exam in Tenn. I like the quiz it is graet

I've been searching for along time trying to find something interesting for Electricians to use on the Internet. Be it Safety issues, Trouble-shooting, Theory, what have you. There are alot of stories to be told and heard about Electrical Safety and this looks like a good place to compile some of this important information so that all Electricians can benefit.
Thankyou Ken Kowalyshyn Industrial Electricain Alberta Canada

This is a fantastic web site. Everything you wanted to know about the Electrical Industry; but were afraid the boss would fire you if he found out that you did not know it in the first place. No, seriously this is something that has been needed for a long time. A place where we can come together as professional electricians and learn from one another. And when that knowledge is collected and correlated then we can make it available to all electricians and all can share in the growth of the Electrical Industry. Great Job People keep it up.
This sight has been added to my favorites. I work for H.B. Zachry out of San Antonio as an apprentice. I started in the electrical trade working for a powerline outfit, but got tired of traveling. Zachry has started an apprenticeship school and is sending us to it. I don't know how long that will last since we contract for Phillips 66, and oil prices are way down. Rumor has it half of us will go. But who Knows. Well I will go Thank you for this sight I enjoy it very much and will continue to show it to my friends.
I have recently patented a tool for the purpose of bending pipe. The name of my tool is Pro Bend. Pro Bend is an angle indicator that mounts to the handle of your bender and with the use of a level mounted in the end of the device indicates the amount of degree that you have bent. therefore removing human error making the Electrician more productive and producing a better overall product. If you are interested in more information Please contact me at probend@nefcom.net. thank you Robert Norman
I was loocking through the net. to see if there was any usefull charts avable to me as i am trying to put together a libary of cross-refferances and procuder charts that would be usefull to the maintance staff. I came accross your page, I am inpressed but I would relate more to KW instead of HP in relation to motor power. I must read on more now so I leave With my comments.

Thank You Infromation is timely, easy to read
To all those who have inquired on how to get into the trade, a good place to start is your IBEW Local. They can tell you how to qualify for the Union Apprenticeship program and head you in the right direction. Generally a IBEW Electrical Apprenticeship program is the best in the Nation. Another approach is with the local Junior College's or Trade Schools in your Area. LIGHTNING GOES UP IF YOU ARE IN ELECTRONICS. IT GOES DOWN IF YOU WERE EDUCATED PRIOR TO 1960, IE, HOLES MOVE AND ELECTRONS STAY STILL.
It is about time someone came up with a page such as this for Electricians. The information is good and up to date and easy to read. Its IN Address should be published on the Evening News. It certainly would be a far far better peice of information than the Monica/Bill/Hillery non news, and in this case would be of more use. I am sure Links such as this will go far to increase the professionalism of the Electrical Trade. We,in the trade, are after all close to god, in that when he said let there be light, he called for his Electrician, With a page like this, the Electrician now may be able to find the light switch. Respectfully: George C.S. Pommerenke (Retired Electrical Contractor)
Finally installed EI 4.0 so I can get into your chat room. Sure is big. Sure is empty. Like the tricks of the Trade, should maby be orginized for printout into one gigantic file. We could call it Gigantic.doc don't fall off your chair on that one.
Does lightining go up, or down? Huh.
cool

What happened to Milke Holt? Is he otta the code business?
We have been in need of a site like this. I retired after 29 years as an electrical inspector, with 21 of those years as chief inspector, and 20 years of teaching the NEC. Keep up the good work, I know from teaching how time it takes.
Interesting!
Nice Site
What about a set of templates for marking sheetrock walls? I've came up with an easier way to locate and mark electrical boxes on the inside or outside of walls. Works well with any type of commercial job, where you have single or multiple devices. You can put together more than one template and adjust to the proper height. When you're done with it, store it until the next job. This is not a new idea, I just took what electricians do on a job and made it easier. Instead of 5 minutes to mark and cut your hole out, now you can do it in 2 minutes. You don't have to spend an hour cutting out templates on every job. It takes 10 minutes to set up for whatever templates you need for any job. You don't have to keep measuring every time you go to another wall to mark for another device (receptacle, switch or fire alarm devices). This saves time, labor and your accurate every time. This makes the job look uniform, instead of devices being uneven and not level. Also the bases can be interchangeable with each other to give you more height ranges. Would like to hear more questions and comments about the E.B.C.O.T. system. Send to ebcot@prodigy.net Thanks.
Good to see you are busy, Joe.
A good and useful site , thanks
Hi, I was looking for some basic info. on elec. I,ve been searching for the very basics on reading meters what the definitions for (i.e.) ohms, continuity, megs, etc were. So far no luck with any site I've tried if You could help me with an address, or some kind of info. I'd be very gratefull.

PRETTY GOOD SO FAR
This is a very interesting site, thanks for all the effort. My e-mail is 622ajo@pwcsd.nosc.mil
Dear Madam or Sir,
Please send a copy of your latest catalog; be sure it includes information and pricing on surplus wire. I am working on a project that requires small gauge wire (24 gau. and smaller), flexibility and quantities of at least 10 meters per spool.
I have used enamel-coated copper for similar applications and found it satisfactory, but I would like to archive a richer color palette. If you have old solenoids from which I can salvage the wire, they would be great as long as the wire can be unwrapped gracefully (without being entombed in an iron housing as is the case in some transformers). Resin-coated or plastic-clad wire is just fine. Please include information about the electrical conductance or resistance of specialized alloys as well. Thank you for your time.

This is my first visit to your site. I am impressed with what you have to offer. Why cann't the rest of the building industry follow suit and make a user friendly system available to everyone, and not keep us DIY's in the dark. Keep up the good work, I am now a frequent visitor.
