Looking for a formula for sizing resisters for a soft start. If I have a 10 HP motor and the max RPM was 1725 and I want to start it at half speed threw resisters then close the lines and run it at full line voltage or full speed.

Great site. I am an instructor at a tech school. Love the code stuff. Always have been curious about the code's use of the phrase "shall be permitted" and then not more than 200% as in the welder calculations. (so does that mean I could hook a 50a welder to 15a breaker.... that isn't over 200%)

Thanks for the basic formula piechart I've been out of et school for ten years or more and now do computer networking. My girlfriend is taking a course on fundumentals of x-ray and radium physics and these are a great find as the book she got with the course is totaly screwy and does not include such basic's as this again thanks
